IKEA Brings Annie Leibovitz’s Vision of Home Décor to Paris Fashion Week

For her project with IKEA, Leibovitz traveled to seven countries—Germany, India, Italy, Sweden, Japan, the UK, and the United States—and captured 25 poignant portraits of individuals and families in their personal spaces. The exhibit goes beyond just photography; it also includes interactive components, such as vignettes designed by up-and-coming fashion designers. As part of this project, Leibovitz also extended her expertise by mentoring six amateur photographers, helping them capture their own interpretations of “home” in the same way she did. These photographers came from various countries, each bringing their unique vision and background to the project.

She sifted through over 500 applicants before narrowing it down to six, with the goal of fostering a creative and competitive environment. The result? A diverse array of perspectives, from a Nigerian photographer who moved in with her subject to a French artist exploring the theme of home through cinematic framing.
Leibovitz spoke about the experience of working with these talented individuals, noting how their work began to influence one another, creating a dynamic learning environment. “It’s a beautiful thing to see how young photographers shape their craft,” she said. “It’s not just about taking pictures, it’s about capturing the essence of life itself.”
