Kevin Hart Says Oprah Winfrey Should Never Be Roasted: “No Shot”
Comedy roasts have become a major part of pop culture, especially through Netflix specials packed with sharp jokes and celebrity appearances. Still, Kevin Hart believes one public figure should remain completely off-limits — Oprah Winfrey.
During a recent appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” the comedian made it clear that roasting the media icon would cross a line no comedian should touch.
While discussing possible future roast candidates for Netflix, Hart first suggested NBA star LeBron James because of his global popularity and larger-than-life image. The conversation quickly shifted when Jimmy Kimmel asked whether Oprah could ever be part of a roast.
Hart instantly rejected the idea.
“That’d be like spray painting the Sistine Chapel,” Hart said. “If I found out that Oprah said she wanted to do it, I’m driving 100 miles per hour to Oprah’s house. You cannot do this. No shot.”
The reaction showed just how highly Hart views Oprah Winfrey. Even in a comedy format built around harsh jokes, he sees her as untouchable.

Hart Reflects on His Own Netflix Roast
The discussion came shortly after Hart faced a roast himself during the Netflix Is a Joke Festival. The three-hour special featured comedians and celebrity friends taking aim at the “Ride Along” actor with nonstop jokes and personal stories.
Several well-known names joined the event, including Chelsea Handler, Pete Davidson, Katt Williams, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and Tom Brady.
When Kimmel asked if any joke genuinely affected him, Hart admitted Johnson managed to catch him off guard with a deeply personal moment involving their fathers.
“Dwayne had the picture of my father and he had a mug shot of my dad and he goes, ‘Look at my dad. Kev, we both love our dads,’” Hart explained.
Johnson then revealed a photo of his father, late wrestling star Rocky Johnson, looking fit and polished after a workout session.
“He had a picture of his dad in shape, you know, coming from the gym,” Hart said.
The comparison became the punchline. Hart joked that the image used for his late father, Henry Robert Witherspoon, was far from flattering.
“He goes, ‘Look at Kevin’s dad.’ And it was the worst picture of my father I’ve ever seen,” Hart said with a laugh.
Debate Around Tony Hinchcliffe’s Joke

Hart also addressed criticism surrounding comedian Tony Hinchcliffe’s controversial material during the roast. One joke referenced George Floyd and immediately sparked backlash online.
During the special, Hinchcliffe said, “The black community is so proud of you. Right now, George Floyd is looking up at us all, laughing so hard he can’t breathe.”
Chelsea Handler later criticized the joke as racist. Hart, however, defended the context of roast comedy while speaking on “The Breakfast Club.”
“The George Floyd joke wasn’t a tasteful joke to our culture, to our audience, but our audience that’s watching the roast, if you’re watching the roast, you get why they’re doing it,” Hart said. “You get why the racial humor is on the table. I wasn’t shocked. That’s what they do.”
Kevin Hart’s remarks highlighted an interesting divide in comedy culture. Roasts are designed to push limits, yet Hart’s refusal to include Oprah Winfrey showed that some celebrities still carry a level of respect that comedians hesitate to challenge.
At the same time, the conversation reopened debate around how far roast humor should go, especially when jokes involve sensitive topics or public tragedies. Hart’s perspective made one thing clear: while comedy often tests boundaries, not every icon is considered fair game.
